It is, however, a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution, because oftentimes the manufacturing process requires the use of natural resources such as minerals and metals. Nonetheless, by taking into account safety and sustainability throughout the design and development phase, producers can create vehicles that are not only safe, but also environmentally responsible.

The increasing consumer and regulatory demands of a more sustainable society can only be met with the strong contribution of the automotive industry and its expertise in technologies. CLEPA (The European Association of Automotive Suppliers) is a partner in the IRISS project and represents over 3,000 companies supplying state-of-the-art components and innovative technology for safe, smart, and sustainable mobility.
