Construction

The construction industry has a big environmental impact and accounts for about 40% of energy and process-related CO2 emissions globally. Construction chemicals, such as concrete admixtures, are typically used to enhance the properties of concrete to add strength and durability to the constructions and at the same time reduce water use and energy consumption.

In the European Union, specific legislation and regulations on safety and sustainability are rapidly changing, posing a challenge for the construction chemicals industry as they do not always take into account that chemically reactive precursors or raw materials are critical in meeting this challenge.

The European Federation for Construction Chemicals (EFCC) is a partner in the IRISS project that represents the construction chemicals companies and associations in Europe. EFCC acts as the spokesperson for the construction chemical industry before the EU institutions and other public authorities and communicates the industry’s views on policy issues regarding product stewardship, standardisation, innovation, and sustainability.
